Emanuela Fanelli: "I'll be at the Gaza rally, but I won't say anything from the stage."

"It's right to talk" about the conflict between Israel and Palestine at the Venice Film Festival, "but in the right way. I will participate in the event held here, but I won't say anything from the stage." Emanuela Fanelli, host of the opening and closing nights of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, explained that she doesn't like "reducing everything to a single sentence" when trying to describe a tragedy like the one unfolding in the Gaza Strip, "when I don't have time to express myself," for example, during one of the Festival's official ceremonies. "In certain contexts, it seems that that sentence serves my image more than the cause. And that, for me, is embarrassing," the actress explained. "But perhaps embarrassment is the only feeling consistent with being in the world right now. I wouldn't be comfortable reducing it all to one sentence. I'm not qualified to talk about this issue for 40 minutes, but I'm very saddened for the Palestinians."
